My name is Divya Mohan. As a Principal Technologist with SUSE, I work on building communities around and advocating for all of our projects. In the broader open source ecosystem, I’m also one of the maintainers of the Kubernetes documentation and the co-chair of the special interest group around community efforts for the WebAssembly ecosystem under the Bytecode Alliance. In my spare time, I prefer staying as far away from technology as possible and can often be found with my nose in a book, building endurance for my next hike, experimenting with fusion cooking, or lounging in bed with my cats.

I joined the CHAOSS Slack in early 2023, having heard about it from several folks. However, it wasn’t until 2024 that I made my first contribution – restarting the CHAOSS Asia local chapter as its regional lead. Through the rebooted initiative, I was also able to help bring (and hope to continue bringing) more Asian voices to the conversation around ISO standardisation of our metrics and metric models and having them work alongside the larger community. Lastly, I love working on our badging initiative and am a newly minted badger!

The open source ecosystem is vast, and it’s easy to believe that your journey in the ecosystem will be all about the technology we’re building collectively. But it’s not only that. It’s also about the friends you make, the experience you gain, and how you give back to the community. So, there is no one way to contribute, and if you’re at a point where you need help – be curious, engage with the community, and ask for it! Most people will be delighted to help or point you to resources if they don’t have the time. And when the time comes, pay it forward by being the person who offers up help. This is the only way to ensure we continue the legacy of open source & help make it better for future generations.

Divya is a whirlwind of enthusiasm, experience, creativity, energy, and positivity, and she single-handedly breathed new life into our CHAOSS Asia chapter. Her fearless curiosity and dedication to building open source communities and connecting others make her a vital piece of our project. I only met Divya this year, but she immediately puts others at ease and makes you feel like you’re a long-time friend. And her passion for open source is contagious! Divya, we are thoroughly grateful for all the hard work you’ve put into managing and rebuilding the CHAOSS Asia chapter and for the expertise you’ve brought! You’ve been a huge driver not just in the chapter, but throughout CHAOSS through the ISO standards discussions, improving project accessibility, and evangelizing the project to students and others in the area. I wish I could accurately express how much your energy has impacted and improved the project. A heartfelt thank you for all you’ve brought here, and all you’ve accomplished so far! This project just wouldn’t be the same without you.
