Reminder- Holiday/End of Year Break: (Almost) All CHAOSS Meetings Canceled Next Week
Every year, CHAOSS makes it a priority to take a break from meetings and metrics work. Burnout is a real thing, and we’d like to keep our community members from feeling burned out in any way. One of the ways we do this is through this yearly break.
We are following this schedule:
- November 20-24: All CHAOSS meetings canceled except Metrics Models WG and App Ecosystem on Nov 21
- December 11-Jan 8, 2024: All CHAOSS meetings canceled.
We hope you all enjoy the break and that we all come back in January feeling refreshed and inspired!
New on the CHAOSS Blog: Unveiling the Impact: DEI Metrics Overcoming Social Barriers in Open Source
The wonderful CHAOTIC Anita ihuman [posted an article on the CHAOSS blog][1] summarizing a year long research campaign whereby she investigated the efficacy of our DEI metrics and how they can impact and affect real positive change in diversity, equity, or inclusion in open source. Although it was a collaborative effort with many CHAOTICS, Anita was the real driving force behind this initiative. The insights she discovered will help inform the DEI Working Group for years to come. We are forever grateful for her work in this crucial research. CHAOSS Latin America & Caribbean Kicks Off Officially
We’d like to extend a huge welcome to a new-ish CHAOTIC, Sele Yang. Sele has been involved in our self-reflective DEI Audit and will now be leading our new CHAOSS LAC chapter! Because open source is relatively new in these areas, Sele will spend a lot of her time connecting, listening, and educating folks about open source and CHAOSS. CHAOSS Africa Updates
The CHAOSS Africa community has been busy as ever! Here are some of the highlights from the past week:
- All In Africa (A partnership between CHAOSS Africa and All In) is educating 250 Africans about open source and GitHub. This course is hands-on and will include hackathons, workshops, and a requirement to merge pull requests to other open source projects. Best of luck to those participating!
- [Improvements to the Slack Bot documentation][5] are making it easier for CHAOSS Africa (or any CHAOTIC!) to contribute to this sub-project. Thanks to Precious Abubakar and her team for working on this documentation!
- The community continues to connect wherever and whenever they can!. Here are some pics of recent CHAOTIC interactions at various conferences across Africa (shout out to Ruth Ikegah, Brayan Kai, Victoria Ottah, Precious Abubakar, Isah Jacob, Maryblessing Okolie, Desmond Obisi, and Anita ihuman.)
